❤️ One of the greatest joys of working with Ezra Coaching is to have the opportunity to reconnect with my mother language – I have had almost a dozen Dutch or Flemish-speaking clients in the last six months.
🤍 This has not only reconnected me with my roots: having grown up in the Netherlands and being Dutch has, of course, always been a part of me – and a part of my identity – but it has also allowed me to rediscover my love for language.
💙 A metaphor, an expression, and even simple every-day words have become revived, and with my largely ‘English ears’ I now hear them quite differently!
❤️ When I first came to live in England – a quarter of a century ago – I found much pleasure in hearing that beautiful language around me every day, studying it, learning to master it, and exploring the accents, the idioms and the vocabulary.
🤍 Now, I’m rediscovering my mother language and my love for exploring its linguistic impact. This is why I wanted to share with you some of the expressions and words which in Dutch are commonly used, but with my ‘English ear’ create such associations that they become even more meaningful.
❤️ 🤍 💙 Here’s the second one!
💫 The Dutch word "begeleiden" means "to coach", but the beauty is that it holds the word "leiden / to lead" while the prefix conjures up a partnership.
💖 "Begeleiden": Helping you to lead yourself.
